Agricultural Clean Technology Program (ACT)

The Agricultural Clean Technology Program is a $190-million initiative designed to support the research, development, and adoption of clean technologies in agriculture. The focus is on promoting precision agriculture and agri-based bioproducts that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, drive positive environmental outcomes, and encourage sustainable, clean economic growth. Funding is provided through two separate streams: the Adoption Stream and the Research and Innovation Stream.

Funding Amount

Adoption Stream
  • Contributions are non-repayable
  • Projects must exceed $50,000 in total eligible costs
  • Maximum funding is $2 million per project
  • For-profit businesses can receive up to 50% of eligible project costs
  • Not-for-profit organizations may receive up to 75% of eligible project costs
Research and Innovation Stream
  • Funding for research, development, and demonstration is non-repayable; projects involving commercialization and scale-up may require repayment
  • Covers up to 50% of costs, with a maximum of $2 million per project; total funding across multiple projects generally should not exceed $5 million
  • Extra funding may be available for organizations or businesses owned or led by under-represented groups (e.g., women, youth, Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, persons with disabilities)

  • Other activities aligned with the objectives of the R&I stream, as defined by the program
