The CSJ is a federal funding program that helps employers create career-related summer job opportunities for youth. The goal is to provide paid work experience that helps young Canadians build valuable skills for future employment.

Funding Amount

Successful applicants for the Canada Summer Jobs program may receive:

Public and private sector employers may receive up to 50% of the minimum hourly wage
Non-profit organizations may be reimbursed up to 100% of minimum wage plus Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs)
Up to 40 hours per week per employee may be included in funding

Eligible Applicants

Employers must be businesses, non-profits, or public sector organizations with 50 or fewer employees

Youth must be between 15 and 30 years old and a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee

Job placements must be full-time (30+ hours/week) and last at least 6 weeks, with most funded roles running about 8 weeks at 35 hours/week

Eligible Activities include:

Providing mentorship and practical work experience for youth aged 15 to 30
Paying wages higher than the minimum wage
Hiring youth who are priority students
Supporting projects that meet specific local needs

National priorities this year include:

Opportunities for youth with disabilities or served by organizations supporting them
Jobs for underrepresented youth (e.g., Black, racialized, Indigenous, and LGBTQ2+ youth)
Positions in rural, remote, or official language minority communities
Skilled trades experience
Projects tied to sustainability and climate action
