Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN) -- Smart Farms Program

This program supports collaborative efforts that bring together agriculture, technology, and equipment manufacturing to create practical, on-farm applications. The funding focuses on advancing research and development in automation and robotics within Canada’s agriculture industry.

Funding Amount

CAAIN will reimburse projects up to 40% of the Total Eligible Supported Expenses, to a maximum of $3 Million.

Eligible Applicants

  • Must involve at least two Canadian-incorporated small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), each with 499 or fewer employees
  • At least two SMEs must provide a financial (cash) contribution
  • Contributions can also come from multinational enterprises (MNEs) or not-for-profit organizations to meet the required 60% industry cash contribution
  • All approved projects are subject to a 4% administrative fee on total eligible supported expenses, deducted from each claim before reimbursement
