Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities Program

The CERRC program funds projects that advance Indigenous-led climate action while supporting job creation, pollution reduction, and local economic development. An additional $300 million has been allocated to the program through 2027.

This program has no maximum funding limit. However, the program has a total of $300 million in funding to be distributed.

  • First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, governments, development organizations, and corporations
  • Canadian businesses and not-for-profit organizations
  • Provincial, territorial, regional, or municipal government bodies

    Projects must address one or more of the following focus areas:

    • Renewable Energy Technologies
      • Solar
      • Wind
      • Hydropower and other renewable sources
    • Capacity Building
      • Training and curriculum development
      • Hiring of energy coordinators
      • Promoting energy literacy
    • Energy Efficiency
      • Building retrofits and upgrades
      • Energy-saving measures like LED lighting and efficient equipment
      • Adoption of emerging energy technologies
    • Heat
      • Biomass heating, district heating, and combined heat and power (CHP) systems
      • Biomass supply chain development
      • Geothermal and related systems
