DIGITAL -- Horizon AI's Technology Commercialization

DIGITAL (formerly the Digital Supercluster) is currently accepting proposals for its Horizon AI program, which supports the early commercialization and adoption of Canadian-owned AI technologies. The program will co-invest in 10 to 15 high-potential projects.

Priority areas include:

  • AI for Health: Strengthening healthcare systems by improving access, encouraging healthy living, and achieving better health outcomes.
  • AI for Earth: Enhancing environmental performance and accelerating the shift to clean agriculture and sustainable natural resource management.
  • AI for Service: Supporting service delivery and decision-making through virtual assistants and AI-powered tools.

Funding Amount

  • Up to 35% of total eligible costs to a minimum of $1M.
  • Minimum Project Size: $3M
  • There is no maximum project size.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible Members:
  • For-profit organizations.
  • Not-for-profits with at least 50% of funding from private sector or industry sources.
  • Non-federal Crown corporations funded through commercial activities.
  • Indigenous organizations.
  • Other not-for-profit organizations, governments, post-secondary and research institutions, DIGITAL Associates, and non-Canadian organizations can participate in projects but cannot receive direct co-investment
Consortium Requirements:
  • Led by an industry organization.
  • Must include at least three organizations.
  • At least one member must be a Canadian SME.
  • Must include a prospective customer for the AI solution.
  • Must include a research or post-secondary academic institution.
  • Can include international organizations.
  • All organizations must be Members or Associates at the time of application.

  • Commercialization or adoption of AI solutions that address specific, industry-defined problems.

Projects can include:

  • Follow-on work from prior DIGITAL investments.
  • Commercializing AI solutions in new markets or sectors.
  • Developing improvements to address gaps in product-market fit.
Eligible Costs:
  • Salaries and wages.
  • Equipment purchase, rental, operation, and maintenance.
  • Materials and supplies.
  • User fees.
  • Facility rentals.
  • Costs for conferences and telecommunication.
  • Travel and dissemination expenses.
  • Capital expenditures.
  • Other costs as approved by the program.
