Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) is a government-backed organization established to help Ontario-based innovators, researchers, and SMEs unlock economic growth by better managing and leveraging their intellectual property (IP). IPON offers access to expert advice, education, funding, and mentorship to support participants throughout their IP journey.

Its recently launched programming focuses on helping businesses and researchers protect and commercialize their IP, empowering them to maximize the value of their innovations.

Funding Amount

IP Bootcamp: Up to 20% of IP service costs, to a max of $35,000.

Partner Program: Up to 20% of IP service costs, to a max of $35,000.

Self-Guided: Direct funding of up to $100,000.

Eligible Applicants

Applicants must:

Be an Ontario-based SME with fewer than 500 employees.
Operate in sectors like MedTech, life sciences, AI, vehicle tech, mining, or advanced manufacturing.
Have operations in Ontario with a long-term growth intent.
Own IP or IP rights and plan to commercialize or monetize in Canada.

Eligible Activities

Projects must:

Show potential for social or economic benefit in Ontario.
Demonstrate the financial ability to advance IP protection or commercialization.
Have IP needs that align with IPON’s services and funding.
Be connected to a Regional Innovation Centre (RIC) or an IPON partner (for the Partner Program).
