Jobs and Growth Fund (JGF)

The Jobs and Growth Fund (JGF) is a $700 million federal initiative aimed at helping Canada’s economy recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. It supports projects that promote long-term economic growth and job creation across the country.

Funding Amount

  • Eligible businesses may receive interest-free repayable contributions covering up to 50% of eligible expenses.
  • Eligible not-for-profits may receive non-repayable contributions of up to 90% of eligible costs.
  • Eligible Indigenous organizations may qualify for contributions covering up to 100% of project expenses for projects serving Indigenous clients.
  • Typically, project funding does not exceed $10 million.

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible for JGF funding aimed at economic growth, applicants must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including co-operatives
  • Not-for-profit organizations or community economic development entities
  • Indigenous organizations

Eligible Activities

  • Foster a more inclusive recovery:
    – Support businesses owned or led by individuals from underrepresented communities
    – Promote the participation of underrepresented groups through not-for-profits that provide services like funding, training, and business support
  • Strengthen Canada’s competitive position and help SMEs succeed through digital adoption:
    – Encourage the use or creation of digital technologies (e.g., Industry 4.0) to increase business efficiency
    – Invest in tools that help small businesses grow stronger and become more adaptable
  • Reinforce key sectors that are critical to economic recovery:
    – Support business scale-up and entry into new markets
    – Grow areas where Canada has a global edge
    – Promote flexibility and growth in key supply chains like food, medical products, and biomanufacturing
  • Promote the shift to a green economy:
    – Support the development and use of clean technologies
    – Help businesses and communities plan and transition toward sustainability
    – Work with organizations to grow regional green innovation hubs
    – Guide businesses in adopting environmentally friendly practices
