Mitacs Accelerate

Mitacs Accelerate connects companies with graduate students (Master’s, PhD, or postdoctoral fellows) who bring research expertise to help solve business challenges. These interns work on applied research projects that may involve developing tools, models, or technologies tailored to the company’s innovation needs.

Funding Amount

  • Businesses contribute $7,500 per internship unit (4–6 months).
  • Mitacs matches this with up to $15,000 per unit.
  • Cluster stream available for projects with 6+ internship units and 3+ interns.
  • Funds cover intern stipends and research costs.

    Eligible Applicants

    Eligible Business Partners:

    • Canadian for-profit businesses, not-for-profits, municipalities, or hospitals.
    • Corporations operating outside Canada are eligible.
    • Not-for-profits, hospitals, and municipalities must be assessed before applying.
    • All sectors may apply.

    Eligible Interns (Students/Postdocs):

    • Must split time equally between the academic institution and the partner organization.
    • Must complete reporting and comply with Mitacs requirements.

    Eligible Professors:

    • Oversee research, supervise interns, and manage grant budgets.
    • Must submit and sign off on project reports.
